Premium Orange Liqueurs » Competitive Spirit

Britt Whitehouse, winner of 2006 MIXIE Awards Hotel Cocktail Competition Last year, Britt Whitehouse, bartender at the JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes, perked up the judges' taste buds with his GranGala hotel cocktail entry in the 2006 MIXIE Awards Hotel Cocktail Competition. He called his drink Persephone's Dream.

Whitehouse's Persephone's Dream used GranGala, vodka, pomegranate, blood orange, and lime to create a flavor he describes as, "a combination of exotic fresh fruit layered with levels of warmth with a crisp finish."

According to Whitehouse, he named his drink, "partly because of the name of the vodka used, Pearl Persephone, and also as a romantic reference to Greek mythology."

In the 13 years that Whitehouse has been bartending, he has kept up with drink trends and has noticed lately "the emergence of molecular mixology and cocktail and food pairings."

Whitehouse entered the MIXIE Awards to challenge himself. "Whenever I can combine a bit of my liberal arts education with my passion for food, and yet create a successful cocktail, I feel like I am on the right path," he said.

Imported from the House of Stock in Trieste, Italy, since 1884, GranGala Triple Orange Liqueur claims its heritage from Italian tradition of an earlier century. Remarkably versatile, GranGala creates hotel signature cocktails such as margaritas and cosmopolitans, or it can be served straight or on-the-rocks. It blends impressively with vodka, gin, vermouth, flavored brandies, fruit juices, and even other liqueurs for premium cocktail menus.

Persephone's Dream Recipe
