This willingness to change as well as their ability to quickly create custom uniforms are two of the several reasons why Wolfgang Puck Catering exclusively uses Los Angeles-based NEWCHEF Fashion, Inc. for its 3,500 employees in 16 different cities, explains Clare Davis,
senior director of brand communications, also located in Los Angeles. Davis shares that being in the same city as NEWCHEF Fashion is a plus, adding that responsiveness in other locales is equally as seamless.
“The nature of the restaurant industry and the catering industry requires that we change out uniforms very quickly. Often, we have to open within a week,” Davis says. “NEWCHEF is amazing. Their sales people are very personable and accessible.”
For example, four days before the 2006 Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requested that the waitstaff wear a different jacket than Wolfgang Puck Catering had planned for the Governors Ball, the official Academy Awards party attended by over 2,000 guests.
“The jackets were a different color and design, more formal than our usual Nehru jacket. We had 600 servers, and NEWCHEF Fashion made it happen,” Davis says.—SBH
