Through its partnership with Michael Aram of Michael Aram Inc., Ritz-Carlton Hotels has
incorporated one-of-a-kind design elements not typically found in service pieces into its
new restaurants and bars worldwide.
Christoph Zbinden, senior corporate director, F&B, Ritz-Carlton, Chevy Chase, Maryland,
says Michael Aram helped them bridge that gap that exists in the marketplace for specific operational
items that are durable, economical, and functional, yet with a design element included.
For the Ritz's new Miami-South Beach property, Michael Aram created Water Lily Pad
Leaves, in sizes from 26 to 42 inches, helping to create a look for banquets and buffets that 1)
isn't tied to particular cuisines; 2) doesn't require much effort; 3) is always consistent; and 4) is
unique.
For their property in Orlando, where high volume and frequency of use demand durability,
functionality, as well as beauty, service pieces were recreated in a different metal for commercial
use.
"Using nickle, we achieved the beautiful look, but without the high maintenance that silver
requires," Zbinden says.
Water pitchers, salt and pepper shakers, and a large "Mermaid" bowl with "caviar"/condiment
dishes helped "create a beautiful, coordinated look without effort," Zbinden explains. -SBH
